How to Clean and Disinfect Your Home

Cleaning your house regularly is necessary if you want to keep germs and small critters at bay. Not to mention, it is imperative for optimal physical and mental health too. While cleaning regularly can help your home look nice, it can also help prevent diseases from sprouting that can harm you and your family's health.

Staying in an unfit environment can trigger allergies, cause skin infections, and even respiratory problems. Having a cleaning routine can help improve your indoor air quality and reduce the risk of these health issues. With that in mind, here are some useful tips on how you can clean your home and create a healthy environment.

Gather All Your Cleaning Tools

Before you start cleaning, make sure to have all your cleaning materials in one place. You can put them in a caddy, a tote, or a bucket. In this way, you can avoid wasting time looking for a single cleaning item for one specific task. Rather than going around your house, you can carry a caddy filled with all your cleaning essentials to save time.

Declutter All Rooms

Now that you have all your cleaning tools, you should start with decluttering each room. Pick up everything that may interrupt you while you are dusting or mopping. It can be toys, books, magazines, or other items lying on the floor. Make sure to put these items in their proper places first before you actually start cleaning. Don't forget to put unnecessary items in the trash bin, if you no longer need them.

Dusting and Vacuuming

Next thing you must do is remove the dust that has accumulated inside your house. Start with your furniture then move to handrails, shelves, TV screens, picture frames etc. Be sure to turn off the ceiling fans before you start dusting as it makes cleaning harder.

You may use dampened cloth tied at the end of a broom for hard-to-reach areas, like the ceiling. Start from the top with the wall and make your way down to the floor. Once the dusting is done, you may now start vacuuming the floor.

Mop the Floor and Wipe the Windows

Mop the floor of your kitchen and bathroom. Start from the farthest corner towards the doorway. Rinse the mop every 4-by-4 foot area. After that, focus on the windows and glass surfaces – use a dampened microfiber cloth in wiping, followed by a dry cloth.

Disinfect Surface Areas

Wipe the hard surfaces of your house using a non-toxic disinfection solution. From countertops, door knobs, light switches, and appliances to other hard surfaces that people usually touch. Open the windows while disinfecting for better ventilation. Some disinfectants are harmful, so be sure to protect your eyes while using them.

Clean the Tubs, Toilets and Sinks

Spray a cleaning solution on sinks, toilets, and tubs and let it sit there for a moment. It is important for the cleaner to stay untouched for a while before you scrub, so that it can dissolve the stains and dirt effectively. After a few minutes, you can start scrubbing these areas one by one.
